Road Cycling (9)I can't see Leo Varadkar stepping up to do a stunt like this but wouldn't it be great if someone would! Those people who think they can park in cycle lanes just don't get the message.

One of Ireland busiest roundabouts was closed off by Gardai for a short period to allow for this fantastic cycle flash mob. Although the meaning of the clown theme is open to interpretation. Maybe they are referring to the clownish manner of the design of some of the cycle lanes around the city or maybe the message was "don't be a clown get out of your cars onto your bike!". Either way I'm so happy that the authorities agreed to such an event and looking at the video at least some of the motorists seemed happy about it.

As part of the celebrations of bike week, there will be an open air cinema on Fade street, between 9pm and midnight, June 24th. The street will be closed to car traffic and there will be an open invitation to 2 wheelers to join the festivities. Weather permitting they will be screening short films and clips with a cycling theme.
Now you can view event on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=216955654990553
**UPDATE*** As of 23/6/11 Fade St Flix is CANCELLED due to forecasts of terrible weather. It *will* be rescheduled! Tell your frends - Flix in the rain is no fun :(

Just typifies the attitudes of the authorities across the world to cyclists, stick a painted line on the ground and require them by law to use these unsafe 'cycle paths'. I applaud YouTube videos like this one that highlight the ridiculous rules that cyclists are unfairly ruled by. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that cyclists should be able to break the rules of the road, I'm simply saying the cycle lanes provided are very often inadequate or unsafe. According to boards.ie some great soul is going to start documenting similar cycle lane hazards found on Dublin 'cycle lanes'. And now you can help by posting a tweet or twitpic using hashtag #bikelanedublin highlighting similar issues.
