THE Grassy Descent...

After fretting all week about not getting out biking, having just broken my own bike and waiting on a part, a good friend came to the rescue and lent me his. By coincidence is the same as mine, a Rocky Mountain Slayer.

We started off from Djouce carpark, up through the woods and a couple of short trails, then out onto the road to cycle down to the Ballinastoe trails. We took a couple of shortcuts climbing Balliinastoe as we knew we had a bit of journey ahead, and skipped the first two sections. When we got the top of Ballinastoe we took the sleepers trail from the view of Lough Tay to the peak of Djouce which is a fun cycle in itself.

Of course the more you involve yourself in the sport, the more 'essential stuff' you discover you need. But here we will go through all the basics needed for getting started in mtb.

  1. Helmet
  2. Gloves
  3. Protective glasses
  4. Pump and puncture repair kit
  5. Cycle shorts
